Ya know what? Eff being tall. I live in a world full of cute, spring dresses with a long legs problem. Every damn cute dress I find ends up making me look like a whore-io. Not fair. Totally not fair. I found the cutest dang dress at the mall today and guess what? Too short. If I bent over, I'm sure I'd be flashing my hoo-haa to the world and I'm sure my future in-laws wouldn't appreciate that at my bridal shower.
I also have to avoid wearing high heels at the wedding since I have a weird thing against being too much taller than Josh. I don't really mind though since I definitely plan on dancing the whole night and high heels would just result with my feet being numb a couple hours in. This girl planned has been waiting for this moment for 8 damn years and I will be shakin' it all night.
I did find the best high/low blazer for work or dressy/casual occasions, a soft pink blouse and a statement necklace that could also double as a weapon if I need to defend myself. Those other journalists just get in my damn way too much. Let me get my quote people!!! I kid, I kid. Thanks Express and H&M.
I also picked up my copy of Chelsea Handler's latest book, Uganda Be Kidding Me. She's one of my snarky idols in life. She doesn't give an eff what anyone thinks. If you ever have a chance to see her live, DO IT. She's hilarious.
She's most popular for her show, Chelsea Lately on E! of course, but omg, she has the filthiest mouth when she's not censored on TV and it's just awesome. I envy her for just giving zero fucks. Anything goes with this woman. Zero limits. I secretly would love to just have zero morals and ambitions for a day...oh wait that's me four glasses of wine later. Nevermind, carry on. While I waited for some of my coworkers to arrive for a meeting, I decided to read a little over a glass of wine at Petterino's. Oh and do so with caution, I almost spit my wine out of my mouth several times because I was laughing so hard.
Friday night was really my only night to relax with Josh and the kitties. We decided to watch a marathon of Ghost Adventures (because that's an awesome idea leading right up to bedtime). Apollo loves to hog a whole side of the couch. His ballet-type stance isn't fooling anyone. He just doesn't know how to share.
Luigi is more of the lap hog. He will climb all over you until he finds just the right spot. This takes about 40-45 minutes.
And now we're back to starting a brand new week and we're at 53 days for the wedding countdown folks. And I must state that as of right now, it's going to be 53 degrees in Chicago my lovely bloggers and this girl is fricken EXCITED. I see the light at the end of this frozen, winter tunnel and it smells of spring!

It's My Birthday and I Can Cry If I Want To....
Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely hate censoring myself. It's like keeping dirty socks in your gym bag for a month. It stinks and it's also really bad for your health. This is absolutely why a core group of girlfriends is necessary in every girl's life. Sometimes even when you may be overreacting (of course I never do...) you need some people to respond with, "OMG I'll get the wine" and "OMG you SO don't deserve that. Let's go shopping." Oh and boy did I ever. The Huffington Post reported that shopping therapy does indeed lift your spirits and help you get out of a funk. Too bad my bronze level health insurance doesn't cover that kind of holistic, healing approach.
It's my way of saying, "see look how cute you look, there is no way you can still feel like shit and look this awesome." Works every single time. This weekend is my birthday and what do I have planned? Nothing except a day of me starting the second I wake up and say, "crap I'm officially a year closer to 30." I also had to renew my driver's license for the first time and yes, it's not the greatest photo...but it'll do.
I love shopping at the local boutiques around here and I was able to score a new spring sweater and a silk top for work. I've been obsessed with venturing out and including more prints in my wardrobe.
Later on, I went on a larger shopping excursion with one of my lovely bridesmaids. We made out like bandits at Victoria's Secret (mainly because the person at the cash register didn't know how to do the math). All of the sale items and 5 for $25 and 2 for $42 deals was apparently too much and I somehow landed an additional three tops she forgot to ring up for a minimal amount. Next stop was H&M where I found some staple work items and my second bridal shower dress. This was a huge win since I hate wearing white or ivory (since it's a fact that I will most likely spill something on myself) and I didn't want to spend too much. Also now that I'm a year closer to 30, I'm having issues even stepping foot into a Forever 21 (besides the fact that I've never looked/felt so much polyester in my life). Despite the store's name, you are NOT going to be forever 21...and you shouldn't dress like it either. Although until then, I will snag every Pink Floyd and band tee I can get for the summer. The best item I scored though, was my birthday present. My shopping partner in crime is an awesome, talented artist and she painted an AMAZING piece for me...she knows me too well.
She's just starting to establish her own business making custom artwork for people. Everyone should check out her Facebook page and website here! Having artistic friends is the best. Gifts that are made are the absolute best. Stay tuned for some more birthday shenanigans later on this week!
I was also nominated for 20SB's 2014 Bootleg Awards! I am so honored and excited. Only those who have a 20SB profile can vote, but if you don't have a profile already, you should! It's a great blogging community! You can vote here! It's an interesting, bracket type of set up and I hope I make it to the next round! Happy voting and vote for EM! I fully intend to bribe voters with cookies, candy, cars, booze...whatever does the trick. :D

Confessions Of A Crazed Bride-To-Be
I've let everyone know that I am now accepting applications for a personal assistant. Why? Because I need one so I don't have to be admitted. Pretty good reason right? When it comes to my full-time gig, my freelance job (that pretty much qualifies as another full-time job as well) and planning my wedding...the stress is definitely getting to me. Sure, I'm excited about "the big day" but when I have to micromanage a bunch of vendors and my mother all at once, I feel like my kickboxing classes just aren't enough to relieve the stress-ball of a life I lead right now. Thank the lord I don't stress eat otherwise I'd look like Jessica Simpson on her third pregnancy.
The one person who keeps the storm at bay though is Josh of course. He definitely mellows me out. I'm so Type A, control freak about everything so when something goes wrong...he's there to say "hey honey, I love you." Cute and amazing right? This is one of the reasons why I know he is the one. Anyone who can talk me down like he can is a saint...and quiet talented I might add. I gained 5lbs of water weight and I swear that scale was going to be catapulted into a neighboring town. It is instances like these that make me want to succumb to HauteLook and Nordstrom sales. See? I take my problems out on my bank account..not on my body. Totally healthy.
Later on this week I'll hopefully be booking my photographer and blocking out hotel rooms for the big day. Booking the right photographer is one of the most important things to find. I need key moments captured....i.e. me taking a shot moments before I walk down the aisle. All joking aside though, I hope to find the right one that doesn't break the bank. What some of these wedding photographers charge is obscene! I don't care if the "premiere package" comes with a gold-encrusted cherished moments album with the blood of Christ, just give me the damn photos! One of the most painful things about the planning process, is having to deal with so many sales people. It's exhausting listening to the bullshit they try to feed you and I'm trying to watch my figure. Lay off. The second you ask for a package that is cheaper, they seem to dismiss you faster than a 98 Degrees comeback tour. Wish me luck! Until then....

Live, Laugh, Love
So throughout the whole last week I was obsessing over taking my engagement photos...yes finally! I've been engaged for over a year now so saying that we're taking engagement photos NOW is kind of funny. I suppose it all goes along with having a long engagement though. We were supposed to have our photo a couple weekends ago, but the weather took a nasty turn for the worst (of course) so we needed to postpone. So early Saturday (the new scheduled photo date) my sister and maid of honor came over to help ease my nerves. I'm definitely a Type A personality so this was stressing me out. We went for a much-needed mani/pedi and spent the whole day relaxing and shopping for a bit.
Since my toe incident and my toe nail subsequently falling off, this was my first pedi in MONTHS. Being a runner, I cherish my pedis more than anything. They feel SO good after a long run, especially when I'm training for a race.
Nothing feels better than engaging in some R&R with the big sis. It was one of her "I feel awesome" days too so I couldn't have been happier.
It was perfect outside and hours before I had to get ready for the engagement photo session so we walked on in to Bossy Boots, an adorable place where I snagged this maxi dress. It's seriously the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. It's actually long enough on me too! Total win. The bottom part of the dress is a sheer black material too that dresses it up a bit. I'm a maxi dress whore that's for sure. They're effortless, chic and feel like pajamas. Need I say more?
Time flew by and before I even knew it, it was time to prep to take some awesome photos. I swear if I'm THIS worked up over taking the engagement photos, I'm going to need a prescription for Xanex when the big day rolls around. I am so anxious to see how they turned out, but here is a teaser shot the photographer posted!

Sunshine On A Cloudy Day
For the past week, it's been a monsoon around these parts. Enough already! Luckily the rain stayed away for most of the day so my mom and I could go to the local Farmers Market and go shopping at my favorite shops downtown. We were a little late to the party, but we got some great jarred honey, dill pickles and apple turnover yummies. I'm all for supporting local businesses and call me weird...but I LOVE pickles - especially these. I'm a honey nut too. It's great for you and gives me a great energy boost before my morning runs. (I usually just have a spoonful and go.) Highly suggested!! Putting honey in tea is another great energy booster instead of snagging a sugary soda.
After we got these goodies, we had a delicious lunch at Benedicts La Strata where I feasted on a lovely veggie white omelet with deliciously made lemonade. It definitely hit the spot after my morning run. It was a long run day (7 miles) and did it without music. I figured I should start running sans iPod since I won't be able to run with it for the Spartan race. I thought I was going to have a tough time since my master running playlists really motivate me through each and every mile, but to my surprise, I did great without JLo blaring through my earbuds! Running without my music really enabled me to listen to my breathing more and improved my pace! Refueling was in order!
After lunch we headed over to do some more shopping and to my surprise, we ran into some amazing Blackhawks throwback jerseys. Being a HUGE fan (but jersey-less) I was salivating at the mouth. My mom told me to try on a Hossa one and I fell in love even though it was way too big. She took it from me and handed it over to the cashier...I was in awe and disbelief. I'm definitely spoiled. It came just-in-time too so I could sport it for game one of the playoffs against the LA Kings. I knew it would bring me good luck.
And guess what? IT DID. Hossa even scored a goal in the second quarter (all because of me sporting his jersey of course) and the Blackhawks won 2-1. That Stanley Cup is that much closer, Chicago!!!

For The Visually Impaired
Oh boy, prepare yourselves...you are reading a post of one dissatisfied customer. I'll start from the beginning...SO I got an awesome Groupon deal that allowed for a value of $200 for $50 that was either for prescription sunglasses or regular eyeglasses from Pearle Vision. Now my prior experience with them was not good since their prices are so inflated it's ridiculous, but I figured this Groupon was a good deal. SO I had my eye exam and as expected, my prescription changed a little so I was looking at possible new glasses and sunglasses. Oh. My. Goodness. I have NEVER dealt with such an obnoxious and rude sales representative in my life. Not only did she recommend that I get glasses that had an insane price tag, but whenever I picked out ones for myself she pretty much said they looked bad on me and reverted me back to these "fabulous gems" yeah...those "gems" were more than a damn car payment. Oh but these were "must-haves" and "looked totally fabulous on me." Uh, yeah more like you'll love how "fabulous" your commission would be if you make the sale. Not a chance.
I ended up picking out a pair of cute regular glasses and some sunglasses just to see how much the total would be with my prescription and oh my lord, my debit card was quivering. I couldn't help but laugh. Also, she of course insisted I have all of these add-ons with my prescription that weren't absolutely necessary. She didn't even give me options and said that with MY prescription (which was a normal single-vision prescription) I needed to have all of these things added that of course inflated the price. The price for the two pairs was about $960. Yes you read right. No typo there. Oh and no, these glasses did not speak French either. I told her to then just tally up the total for only the sunglasses since I didn't have prescription sunglasses at all and she was quite taken aback when I didn't want both pairs. She then tried to push it even further saying that with MY prescription I should really get both pairs. At this point, I've had enough. If she even bothered to look at my prescription, she would have seen that it barely even changed and that I was told by the doctor that it wasn't vital that I get new glasses. I walked out of there sans either pair due to how pushy and awful this sales rep was. I simply did NOT want to give them my business because of how ridiculous she acted and was clearly just out for the commission.
I mean I'm sorry, for that price, why don't you just ask me to bend over a little further? I should have gone there before even buying the Groupon, but I'm willing to eat the $50 just so I don't have to deal with them again. It was such an exhausting and irritating ordeal, we walked over to Outback Steakhouse for some emergency martinis and had a great date night dinner.
The following day, I went to this amazing new place called the Eye Boutique nearby and got an amazing deal on a pair of sunglasses and regular glasses that were identical, if not better, than the ones I found from the place from hell. The sales rep was so nice, gave me a huge discount on the second pair of glasses, gave me options and didn't try to upsell anything. I was more than happy to give them my business and I only ended up spending $300 even with add-ons that were more at the other place. My vision insurance even knocked off more on the price of my regular glasses.
For my regular glasses, yes I succumbed to the hipster-type glasses trend and got these Kenneth Cole Reaction frames. I totally love them. I sadly forgot to take photos prior to handing them over for my prescription to be added but they look like this:
For my second pair, I decided to go with GUESS cat eye sunglasses that look totally fabulous and fun.
I can't wait to rock these at the lake and to have a new look with my regular pair of glasses as well. Good customer service goes a long fricken way and had that sales rep not been so obnoxious, she just might have gotten a sale. If I choose to even use my Groupon now, I'll make sure to deal with someone else or go to a different location.

Minnesota Nice
So on Friday my mom, grandmother and myself all piled into the car to road trip it to Minnesota to see my lovely cousin Anna graduate from Minnesota State University Mankato. I can't believe she's graduating COLLEGE. It definitely makes me feel old even though we're only a few years or so apart. She's so beautiful and intelligent, I can't wait for her to find out what life has in store for her. But lets back track a bit to the trip up here...what was supposed to be a six-hour trip, ended up being 12 hours of powerhouse personalities clashing, bad weather and feeling nauseous from eating out and being in the car for so long.
I had all of my essentials (i.e. book, iPod, phone, laptop, Starbucks)...thank goodness or else I would have gone bat-shit crazy.
Once we rolled on into the Best Western Premier hotel at midnight, I was overjoyed to see that it met my first priority since I have a HUGE phobia regarding hotels...it was exceptionally clean and had great amenities including a fitness center that I vowed to hit up after all of the snacking that was done during the trip. Although the room appears clean, I MUST bring my own pillow and blanket (yeah sure call me weird) but I've heard enough horror stories and just thinking about how many people slept or engaged in other activities in that bed before me...yeah...I'll opt out of getting all snuggley between the sheets no matter WHAT hotel I'm at. It was a great, comfy bed though and I slept like a rock.
The following day, I met up with my cousin Anna while my grandmother and mom met up with some of my mom's cousins and other family. We saw The Great Gatsby and since I went into it completely expecting it to bomb since I'm a literary snob and a half, I must say that I liked it particularly because I like Baz Luhrmann's directing style. If you don't, you'll hate it. Just like Romeo & Juliet, the film is very outlandish and may distort the themes and your own personal vision you had in your mind as to how certain scenes played out in your head, but I think he was (for the most part) spot on with the main characters with the exception of Nick Carraway. I can't tell you how effing much I dislike Tobey Maguire and to see him playing this role almost ruined the movie for me. Since he's the narrator he's in every fucking scene. EVERY SINGLE ONE. The man cannot act, he's unattractive and aggravating. His presence in the movie was like the annoying third wheel on a date. You just wanted him to get off the screen so you could witness REAL acting from the rest of the cast. I really liked how Luhrmann really stayed faithful to a lot of the symbolism in the book such as the green light and really portrayed that quite well. Leonardo DiCaprio was quite brilliant as well playing Jay Gatsby and Carey Mulligan as Daisy. One thing that really did piss me off was the soundtrack in some parts of the movie. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z has absolutely no place in this movie. None. It was awkward and just did not work. I absolutely LOVE Lana Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful" though. Overall, I think I'll have to see it again, and although it's been quite awhile since I've read the book, I'd say Luhrmann's interpretation was pretty accurate although his focus was more so on the cinematics than the storytelling.
But again, my harshest criticism is casting Tobey Maguire. They even had to reboot the whole Spider Man series and here he is appearing in a movie adaptation from one of the greatest literary works of all time? Fail.
As my cousin and I voiced our own critiques of the movie, we headed on toward Mall of America and I can't believe I'm about to say this but...I didn't break the bank. I found the perfect Mother's Day gift at my mom's favorite store, got some cute journals and a huge coffee mug sporting Minnesota pride on it. Love it. Some people might think visiting Minnesota is boring but I have amazing memories visiting family here and where my family is...it's never boring. I still hate the fact that Mall of America removed Camp Snoopy though and replaced it with lame Nickelodeon crap. After we finished getting our moms their gifts, we headed on back to my aunt and uncle's place for some AMAZING ribs and dined on their back porch while celebrating with the soon-to-be-grad.
Now today was the day my cousin graduated from Mankato and wow was it quite the adventure getting there. Not only did my mom write down HALF of the directions to the place, but she ended up getting pulled over by a state trooper for speeding. I then got to hear about her conspiracy theories regarding the cop and her getting a ticket for the rest of the way there (almost 1.5 hours). Apparently the cop was out to get her because we're from out-of-state and she has a Chicago Bears license plate. Yes mom, I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that you were definitely going 10 over the speed limit...*eyeroll. Granted the guy was ridiculously rude and should have probably just let her off with a warning since she has a completely clean record...but life goes on...well apparently not for the next eight hours. My patience was wearing thin by the time we finally got to the place.
I was ecstatic once we got there with primo seats to see my cousin walk across that stage. I'm soooo proud of her.
Once the ceremony was over, we gathered outside for pics, giving our congrats and many hugs of course. She did it and is now embarking on this huge adventure.
Afterward, we went to Bonfire, a great restaurant where I indulged in a couple of VERY necessary pomegranate martinis. Shake that baby up.
Although we had to celebrate sans my sister and my other cousin Kelly, it was a great crowd where we toasted to Anna's bright future and chowed down on amazing food.
Tomorrow is Mother's Day and our final day in Minnesota. I hate saying good-bye to my fam but it's only until next time!!

My aunt and uncle have been amazing hosts as well opening up their home to us. I love them so much and I really don't visit them enough!

Bikini Body
So today was a pivotal moment for me. For the first time in years, I tried on bikinis. I've usually rocked a one-piece or a tankini recently in the past but this summer...it was time to actually purchase my first bikini. I called today B-DAY. While I still have some to lose, I'm pretty confident that I can finally wear one. I brought one of my best support buddies who tells me how it is (the only way to go in situations such as this one) and knew that I would get an honest opinion when I dared to step out of the dressing room in a bikini since I've lost so much weight. Although I was dreading the moment, we had a blast picking out an insane amount of suits to try on and when I tried the first one on...I didn't want curl up into the fetal position and have a mental breakdown. I actually felt comfortable walking out in the first one. Victory. Sure I'm no Victoria's Secret model, but who is really? I was ecstatic that my initial reaction was "hmmm I could work with this" and not, "omg I'm going to the beach in a parka."
Once I found one that locked the girls in to avoid embarrassing nip-slips and side boobage I was jumping for joy. When Josh found out that I settled for yet another tankini prior to this B-day trip, he asked why since I had a "bikini body." I contemplated maybe demanding he pee in a cup and have him tested for drugs but while undergoing further consideration...turns out he may have been right. I mean we are our own worst enemy and our harshest critic. I always think I can do better and my bod is no exception. He said I needed to be more confident in myself and I thought to myself how dare he say that to me! I am confident! Well then I just had to prove it and look here, I bought a damn bikini. Well-played sir, your tactic worked.
My bikini bud was a great sport about the whole thing and it meant the world to me that she came with. But dear lord, I need to tan asap. Like right now. I have a raft calling out my name and it needs to be 80 degrees and sunny so I can stop channeling Casper the ghost.
This is the bikini I decided on. It's got some sass to it with the gold studs and mesh on the front and the strap is removable to avoid awful tan lines. Bring it on summer, shit just got real. Also, now that this baby is hanging in front of my dresser, there is no damn way I'm missing a day at the gym or a scheduled run. Talk about motivation.
After conquering my bikini fear, Cortney and I headed out into the other stores to add to our summer wardrobe. We also engaged in some serious people watching. It's amazing what some people will wear out in public. We saw everything from pink hair to yoga pants with camel toes. Unfortunately, I failed to capture photos of some REAL winners. Overall, today was a perfect close to the weekend on so many levels. Nothing feels better than ending the day with more confidence than you've ever had.

Saying Yes To The Dress
So after watching so many other brides-to-be say yes to the dress on TLC's famed wedding show, I said yes to MY dress!! After trying on several potential dresses from mermaids to foofy cake topper dresses, I knew that I found THE one the moment the consultant helped me hop into the dress. Months earlier I thought I found the one but I was starting to question my decision and wanted to try on more gowns. My sister said that this was a clue that I didn't find the one yet. With this other appointment, I knew that THIS was the one. I didn't want to try on any other dress. This one was mine. Not to mention that there was a cry-fest when the consultant topped it off with a gorgeous veil. It was the one. I thought I would be able to hold it together while I was out showing my mom and sister for the first time but one look at my sister with her tear-filled eyes and it was all over.
The following week I brought my posse along so they could see me in it and so I could finally sign the contract and officially say yes to the dress. I couldn't get my bod into that dress fast enough. It felt like finally being reunited after enduring a long distance relationship. I of course can't divulge any specifics but the dress is just beyond gorgeous and is everything I wanted in a gown. It has the wow factor. The consultant pretty much had to drag me out of that dress when it was time to get out of it and get my measurements. By the time I got out of the dressing room, I was shocked to find that my grandmother stealthily helped pay for my dream dress along with my mom. I couldn't have asked for more....especially since only one accessory to the dress was more than a car payment. I was speechless and I was so happy that the ladies that will be standing beside me as I say my vows were there to witness it all (sans my cousin who couldn't make it.)
After everything was in place and I ordered the dress in my size, we were all ready to head out to celebrate with some yummy food at Mimi's Cafe (thank God because this one right here was fasting prior to the dress appointment). My bff in pink there even surprised me with this gorgeous scrapbook with empty pages to fill with my pre-wedding events such as this one and photos from my future bridal parties. Speaking of which, I also found a beautiful bridal party dress from Gilt.com. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of hearing about this amazing website, they host events for designer apparel, accessories, shoes, travel, home goods, etc. for a fraction of the price!
I got this beautiful Alio Ro sparkle crossover knit dress. You have to be quick about it though, some items sell out faster than you can take out your credit card!
It's a constant battle finding dresses that are long enough and don't make me look like I belong on a street corner because of my long legs. I can't wait to rock this dress! I'm also thinking about these other dresses featured on Gilt.com...

Happy Bunny Day!!!
Since I've long outgrown the Easter egg hunts, visiting the Easter bunny and waking up to Easter baskets in the morning, I've learned to just enjoy the holiday and family gatherings that go along with it. Soon enough I'll be the one in charge of hosting Easter egg hunts for my own little ones....years upon years from now. Easter weekend began with getting up bright and early to get ready to spend the day with my memom for her birthday. However, I felt like it was MY birthday with the surprise my sister had for me when she arrived. She brought JT.
We celebrated my memom's birthday at one of our favorite French restaurants, L'Eiffel Bistrot in South Barrington. I will also be having one of my bridal showers here and I am BEYOND excited. They even have an Absinthe bar. Perfect.
We chatted over delicious, French fare and coffee. I ended up getting the veggie sandwich that pretty much looked like a work of art on a croissant. Since it was a wee bit early to indulge in some Absinthe, I stuck with water. Snooze. Boring.
After we finished our lunch the waitress surprised my memom with a happy birthday dessert. I can only hope her birthday did or will come true!
My memom is one strong and beautiful woman. I'm so lucky to have her!
After we ate, we went on a little shopping spree. We were perusing the Ann Taylor Loft store and was bummed to find out that they did not have my usual size in some shorts I was looking at but that's when my sister told me to just try on a size smaller just to see if those fit. And that's when it happened....ladies and gents....I FIT INTO A SIZE 4!!!! After I did an impromptu happy dance in front of the mirror, I screamed a little and jumped up and down in excitement. Mind you I've never been this size in my entire life (not including my toddler days) and just a little over a year ago I was rocking a size 14 dress at my sister's wedding. And it wasn't an "omg they fit but sausaging out in them" kind of fit...they actually fit comfortably!! Goals achieved. Bring it on summer, I will rock the hell out of my new wardrobe.
My mom also surprised me with this gorgeous, sheer butterfly scarf from Soft Surroundings. I have no idea how she got away with buying it without me knowing it either...stealthy...
Easter Sunday was spent boxing it out in the morning and then getting all dressed up to visit with my dad's side of the family for an Easter luncheon. It was great visiting with them and catching up. The only bad part of today was that I had to face the realization that tomorrow is....Monday. Womp, womp! I really can't complain about spending a fantastic weekend with family though AND that spring has finally decided to arrive!!! Suck on that one cold, winter weather!!!
